3,200 Policemen Deployed In Akwa Ibom For NLC Protest

PoliceFollowing a meeting with the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), affiliate bodies, and other stakeholders regarding the anticipated protest by the labor union, Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara has dispatched 3,200 police officers across the state.

The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiki Macdon, stated in a release on Tuesday that the Commissioner of Police acknowledged the constitutionally protected rights of freedom of expression and association. However, he emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order, particularly during protests, and urged that demonstrations comply with the law.

The Commissioner urged both the labor union and residents to prioritize the peace of the state, cautioning against any criminal elements seeking to exploit protests for nefarious purposes. He assured that the Command would swiftly identify and address any troublemakers.

He called upon the NLC to conduct their activities peacefully and encouraged all residents to continue their lawful pursuits, assuring them of comprehensive police security measures.
