Gov Alia Approves Construction Of 16km Road To End Decades-Long Land Dispute

The Governor  of Benue State in person of Hyacinth Alia has given his approval for the construction of a 16-kilometre road aimed at resolving a 46-year-old land dispute between the Nigerian Air Force Tactical Air Command Makurdi and its host communities.
Following a meeting convened by Governor Hyacinth Alia with a delegation from the Air Force and representatives from Ugondo and Mbaivur communities to address the longstanding land conflict, the decision to construct a 16-kilometre road was reached.

During the meeting held on Wednesday in Makurdi, the state capital, Governor Alia emphasized that the road would connect the boundaries of Makurdi and Gwer-West, extending to the Gwer-West boundary with the Gboko Local Government Area, thereby enhancing accessibility to the communities.

He highlighted that resolving the dispute would attract more Federal Government presence, leading to increased development in the state.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, for his commitment to resolving the decades-long conflict and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to bringing more developmental projects to the state.

He further stated that the road would establish a permanent boundary between the indigenous people and the Air Force.

Earlier in his remarks, AVM F. O. Edahosa, the leader of the delegation and the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Nigerian Air Force, Makurdi, acknowledged that previous attempts to resolve the land dispute had been unsuccessful.

He highlighted that the Chief of Air Staff had demonstrated keen interest in resolving the matter, recognizing the strategic importance of Benue State.

He commended the Governor for his persistent efforts and commitment to maintaining peace in the state, citing various meetings the governor had convened with heads of different security agencies since assuming office.

Responding, the Mue Ter Ugondo, Chief Clement Kurugh, and Amir Ishor, the representative of the Ter Makurdi, all appreciated the governor and the Chief of Air Staff for wading into the land dispute, saying they trust the governor’s efforts to resolve the issue and bring a lasting solution.
