According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the average retail price of a liter of diesel rose from N828.82 in January 2023 to N1,153.01 in January 2024.
This information was disclosed in the NBS Diesel Price Watch report for January 2024, which was released in Abuja on Wednesday.
The report highlighted that the January 2024 price of N1,153.01 per liter represented a 39.11 percent increase compared to the N828.82 paid in January 2023.
Additionally, it noted that on a month-on-month basis, the price saw a 2.34 percent increase from the N1,126.69 per liter recorded in December 2023.
According to the report’s analysis of state profiles, Kebbi recorded the highest average price of diesel in January 2024 at N1,433.33 per liter, followed by Kogi at N1,300 and Abuja at N1,226.70. Conversely, the lowest prices were observed in Borno at N927.27 per liter, followed by Kano at N940.89 and Taraba at N988.33.
Furthermore, the report highlighted that when analyzing by zones, the North-Central region had the highest diesel price at N1,205.11 per liter, whereas the North-East recorded the lowest price at N1,074.03.
