Senate President: I Have More Experience Than Akpabio – Ndume
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program, Borno federal lawmaker Senator Ali Ndume emphasized that he is not working against Senate President Godswill Akpabio or attempting to oust him, as he would not destroy the foundation he helped build.
Reflecting on a recent incident on the Senate floor in which Akpabio ruled him out of order while he was trying to correct the Senate President, Ndume suggested that Akpabio should have invited him for a private discussion.
Ndume maintained that a Senate President should not overrule his Chief Whip. He clarified that his departure from the chamber after being ruled out of order was not due to anger but rather because it was time for him to pray, emphasizing that people should not misinterpret the situation.
He stated, “My concern lies in how he handled the situation, and what occurred the last time was either misunderstood or taken out of context. Don’t forget that I supported and campaigned for Akpabio here. You can’t construct a house and then destroy it.”
Ndume added, “The primary issue is that I have more experience than him. When I attempted to correct him… you don’t overrule your chief whip. At that moment, he should have invited me, and we could have discussed it privately, but he took advantage of the gavel, and it was 12:30 pm, and I needed to go and pray.”
