The Nigerian Army recently shared a story about how soldiers from the 81 Division helped save a woman named Mrs. Francesca Spark from attempting suicide by jumping into the Lagos lagoon near the 81 Division Officers’ Mess at Marina.

According to Lt.-Col Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, who spoke for the Army, the soldiers from the 65 Battalion stationed at the officers’ mess saw Spark jump and acted quickly to rescue her. In the statement he said, “She was given first aid and stabilized by the battalion medical team. After stabilization, the family was contacted, and she was handed over to her husband, one Mr Spark Oghene Ovie, residing at Awoyaya Lagos,”

Major General Muhammed Takuti Usman, who leads the 81 Division, praised the soldiers for their quick thinking and bravery. He appreciated their skills in handling such a critical situation that could have ended tragically.

He mentioned that the soldiers are trained not just for war but also to assist during emergencies and natural disasters.

General Usman assured the public that the Army is dedicated to safeguarding people and their belongings, even during emergencies. They are prepared to support other agencies in times of need to ensure the safety and security of citizens.

He also assured residents of the army’s dedication to safeguarding the well-being and assets of local residents, particularly in times of crisis.
